Mission

We Support Recovery is a faith-based nonprofit serving Northwest Wisconsin, focused on addiction prevention, recovery, and restoration. As a peer-run Recovery Community Organization (RCO), we are here to connect people in recovery with peer support, recovery coaching, sober events and recovery meetings.

Our Story

We Support Recovery starts where you are - with addiction. Founder Stacy Hilde has lived experience with addiction and a family history of unhealthy alcohol use. Her husband Bob Hilde has been thriving in long-term recovery from an opioid addiction since 2005. Before that his father found over 35 years of sobriety from alcohol with AA. Bob and Stacy are raising two foster children whose lives have been impacted by addiction.

Since 2007, Bob and Stacy Hilde have been involved in local and statewide community service and disaster response leadership. After Bob’s business burned down in 2016, Stacy felt called to a new ministry - an opportunity to serve people in recovery. After doing extensive community interviews with people in recovery, providers, law enforcement and community leadership, she found that three key support pieces were missing for people in active addiction or seeking recovery:
1. Recovery Housing
2. Sober Recreation
3. Transportation

In 2019, Stacy received a Substance Use Disorders Counselor Certificate from UW-Madison and in 2020, God opened the door for Bob and Stacy to open a privately owned recovery residence called Angel Hands Recovery Homes in Frederic, WI. In 2021, the ministry rebranded to We Support Recovery and was granted 501 (c)(3) IRS exemption status as a nonprofit organization.

Vision

Our vision for We Support Recovery is to create a Rural Recovery Model that can be implemented in rural communities across the country. We intend to empower communities to create peer support networks, expand services, help people navigate treatment services, and overcome barriers to care such as transportation and childcare.

We hope to connect people with peers in recovery through recovery meetings, sober recreation events, and peer recovery support services. We hope to improve access to treatment in jail and to create re-entry programs for people leaving jail or prison.

For people seeking a faith-based connection, we wish to partner with churches to expand recovery meetings, family support groups, and recovery-friendly worship opportunities.

Our vision is to create a rural recovery model that works.

Who We Serve

We serve people in or seeking recovery and their families in rural northwest Wisconsin. We aim to expand service statewide in Wisconsin and Minnesota within three years, and the larger midwest region in five years.

Although we are a faith-based organization, we are not faith-exclusive. We seek to serve people of any faith or no faith and strive to not discriminate based on sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, religion or political views. We respect multiple pathways to recovery.

Our Team

Board of Directors

As a peer run Recovery Community Organization (RCO), at least 50% of our board must be in recovery or have lived experience. As a faith-based group, voting members of the Board of Directors must be Christian.
What We Believe

Because we value connections, experiences and input from all persons, regardless of beliefs, we established the Advisory Council.
